Dr. Jeff Markuns

Dr. Jeff Markuns is the Executive Director for the Boston University Family Medicine Global Health Collaborative (BU GHC) and a practicing urban Family Medicine physician. He has been working with BU GHC since 2007, providing teaching and consultation around the world with a special focus on education and training as well as primary care systems integration.

Dr. Markuns has supported the Vietnam Family Medicine Development Program for 10 years, one of the largest and most successful international Family Medicine development projects in the world, working on national-level scale up of a horizontally and vertically-oriented primary care model. He directs a similar program training physicians in Laos from remote district hospitals to provide general medical services and primary care and co-led an early-phase primary care system strengthening program in Cambodia focused on creating a competency-
based medical curriculum.

Dr. Markuns has led numerous workshops around the world focused on medical education and primary care systems development, and he has developed and organized countless fellowships to Boston University for visiting professionals ranging from practicing specialist physicians to health system administrators to government policy-makers, including Ministers of Health.
